Telekom Srpska overpriced?

BELGRADE — Economic consultant Milan Kovačević said that Telekom Srbija paid too much for 65 percent of Telekom Srpska’s capital.

Kovačević, an expert in foreign investments, is surprised by the price that Telekom Srbija paid for the Banja Luka-based service, 646 million euros, while the second highest bid came from Telekom Austria, which offered more than 150 million euros less.

“The price the Serbian Telekom paid is 40 percent higher than any other bid made. That means that there was not great interest in the company. “Kovačević said.

He also said that he is dissatisfied with how the government so easily buys things from foreign countries at higher prices.

“I am surprised by the fact that public companies also get into debt and invest in large purchases.” Kovačević said.

“I expect that we need to speed up the privatization of public companies so that we can enable them to work better and offer better service to their customers. We know that Telekom itself has many problems, that stationary and mobile phones are tangled up, and that its results are not optimal, along with the fact that it has many employees.” Kovačević said
