CEFTA signing tomorrow

BELGRADE — Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica will sign the CEFTA agreement in Bucharest tomorrow.

With the signing of the agreement, Serbia will enter the Southeast European free trade zone.

The signing of the agreement by ten regional countries is also very much supported by Brussels, as well as by Serbia producers who will be able to sell their products without customs to a region of 30 million consumers.

Serbia and Croatia have a deadline for reaching an agreement on regulations regarding taxes on cigarettes before the ratification of the agreement by the state parliaments.

State Secretary of the Foreign Economic Relations Ministry, Vlatko Sekulović, said that Serbia would not back down from the fight for the interests of its industry.

“Either we will all agree on what the rules, customs and other things which regulate the tobacco industry in the sense of creating various acceptable conditions for everyone and opening up the market in integration, or every country will continue to protect its own interest in one way or another and its national industry in that way.” Sekulović said.

The CEFTA zone includes Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, the territory of Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albanian, and Moldavia. The agreement will also be signed by Bulgaria and Romania, though they will leave the zone once they become EU member countries.
