Heard it through the grapevine

Rumor has it that several great bands will visit Serbia this summer, even if we exclude Exit festival out of the equation.

First there is this ‘Road Fest’ in Zrenjanin, with following line up:
Foo Fighters, The Prodigy, Jamiroquai, Tricky, Motorhead, Joe Cocker, The Cult and Underworld. They already started selling ticket even though only Motorhead and Joe Cocker confirmed the gig.
Then we have new rumors – one has been around for a long time – and that’s Red Hot Chili Peppers, and we have a newer one – Metallica for the second time since 2004.

Now you have to know one thing first – no matter how old, outdated or ‘passe’ some band might be, there is always a chance that they will play in Belgrade. Some bands do it just to say that they have played in all European cities, some do it because they are too broke and because they would play anywhere for the cash. But be it as it may, there is always a crowd eager to come listen and see their favorite childhood band.

Problem is, apparently, that there is always a risk for those organizing the concert that there will not be too much people attending if they raise a ticket price too much or that the band is just too expensive and that there is no way they are going to fill the place. Normal ticket price for a relatively known band, goes around 20-25 EUR. Still there is a risk, because not everyone can afford this price, especially if there are several bands playing in a short period of time.

Now i hope that some of these rumors are true, cause otherwise we would still have to travel to Vienna or Budapest and give even more money to agencies offering the whole package (travel, ticket, accommodation) for the concerts of world famous bands.

One thing is for sure – these woosies won’t come to Belgrade. Talk about a rebelious spirit of r’n‘r, huh?

Personally i will be happy if i see Beastie Boys this summer at Exit festival. Whose concert would you like to see in Belgrade?

25th February update: Red Hot Chilli Peppers confirm their gig in Serbia on June 26th!
It will be held on a big field half way between Belgrade and Novi Sad, near Indjija. They expect people from neighbouring countries to come too, maybe over 100 thousand all together. More info on this event later on the blog.

   I’m not a huge rock fan but I know quality when I hear it. Thats why I’m looking forward to the Chillis coming home. I sense a very good marketing opportunity for this gig – after all Serbia is the home of the chilly pepper or paprika right? Just kidding, if they do come the agency responsible for hiring them wont bother using their ‘creative’ talents to sell. They never do.

   Can all of that old man (that strangely disaffected teenagers seem to like these days) rock stuff ACDC and so on. Its soooo 70’s or 80’s and is too much about making a noise just for the sake of it.

   The Manic Street Preachers, Bent or many other Bristol bands would be good.
