Sheep wake up...

“Sheep wake up you are next
and you shepherds go and get your hair cut
Sheep wake up go up to the hills
WOLVES WILL EXIST AS LONG AS SHEEP EXIST”

As the second round of the presidential elections approach, I thought it to be useful to quote the refrain of a song by the Greek musician Notis Sfakianakis which is critical to the global politics of George W. Bush. But I don’t want to criticize his politics, but to make an appeal on the people of Serbia that they are on a crossroad now, no matter whether the presidential function is titular or not. The fragile democracy in Serbia cannot afford any more shocks by having a radical on the top position in Serbia. Serbia cannot afford any more isolation and hatred. Serbia cannot afford to be landlocked by the European Union, and have a vague hope of help from Russia. Serbia has been on the crossroads for centuries, shall we go west or east, to progress or backwardness, to partnerships or hatred. In this transitionary period we make decisions that are important for our future as Serbs and citizens of Serbia. We have to ask ourselves the question of whether we desire to have a gravedigger as our President with an agenda that brings us to nowhere. Do we want to live in a country where demagogy is more profitable than actions and labour? Do we want to give any justifications to those that hate us? Do we want to be their laughing stock? Do we know how to determine our pride? I say nay… I don’t want Serbia to be the black sheep of Europe and I surely don’t want to give a reason to those that hate us to mock on us. And I surelly don’t want the elite that destroyed us Serbs to rule again and anullate all the years of resistence and efforts to get rid of parasites that have damaged the prestige of Serbia and us Serbs.

Unfortunatelly, the 5th of October needs many ratifications, and the elections on Sunday is one in the row of many, so I call to people to vote against the politics of the destructive past and militant opportunism. People should stop being sheeps and go and use their democratic right of choosing their destinies as a collective. I will pay the 50 Euros to go to Berlin and vote against Nikolic. What will you do, will you be fighter or a sheep?

I’ll be voting against Nikolic too. But I will still feel like a sheep for voting for Tadic – so I guess that makes me a fighter-sheep.

:))))) Fighter-sheep, that’s a good one. Seriously, we are now in a situation when we have to swallow the frog and make a compromise, as Winston Churchill once said that he would say even a good word for the black devil if it helps him to win Hitler. The radicals are a serious menace, thus one has to behave as Djindjic did when forming DOS, making an alliance with those he liked and those he didn’t like. Now Viktor, it may sound cheesy, but by voting for Tadic (against Nikolic) on Sunday you’re not a sheep but you’re doing your patriotic duty of not letting a man come to power who will destroy our country.

    Another fighter-sheep, reporting.

I think Čanak put it well once, when he was talking about voting for Koštunica back in 2000, and it goes for me now: I’ll sit on my hand, till it feels so numb that it doesn’t feel like it’s my own, before circling the number.

This is way fucked though… We have loony nationalists on one side and wild west capitalists who seem perfectly in their place in a country ripe for corruption.

I don’t mind being put in a situation of choosing lesser evil (that’s what the second round is for, and I agree with the principle), but fuck it. As much as I don’t want to vote for Nikolić, I don’t want to vote for Koštunica’s government either, and I certainly don’t feel confident voting for Tadić who is acting utmost undemocratic here, with his populist rhetoric and unwillingness to keep to ANY principle of guarding the civic society.
